Dawnside have made their return in 2024 with a new singer and new EP 'Silence Lasts Forever'. Dawnside continue with their when hardcore meets metalcore sound in their new EP 'Silence Lasts Forever'. Complete with a new vocalist the group from Germany deliver punchy drums with dynamic guitars and growling vocals. Previously, the group who were originally founded in 2015 have shared stages with the likes of Our Mirage, Dying Breed and Dispeller. With their new 5-track EP, Dawnside create a sonic adventure that takes you from modern metalcore to 2010's hardcore and a little bit in between. Opening up the EP is probably my favourite track on it, 'Drown Me' awakens with these gentle guitars before the track slowly builds into a heavy metalcore attack. The more I listened to this the more I liked it and this is one I am excited to go back to every time. I am a really big fan of how this one feels like it could fit in on an album from the 2010's or the 2020's. The heavy solo vocal backed up by the power of the guitars kept me hooked, but my absolute favourite thing is the use of the gang vocals that brought me back to being a teenager in the 2010's listening to bands like Asking Alexandria for the first time. I knew from this first song that 'Silence Lasts Forever' was an EP that I was going to enjoy. Coming in a bit heavier is the second track 'Burning Bridges' which also features Fynn Schiller. Starting with more hardcore guitars before breaking into something a little more melodic this is a cool track. I wasn't too sure how much I liked this one comparing it to the first track but by about two minutes in it had grown into something that was packed with emotion and made me want to stay and listen more. I think when the more emo hardcore part came in with the softer catchy vocal melody that's when I really started wanting to pay attention to 'Burning Bridges' and after that point it kept me there. Basically starting with a breakdown 'Last Words' gets even heavier from the get-go. Vocally this one seems to lean more in a hardcore direction, taking a bit longer to get to the rough vocals we have got to know so far. The drums in this one are fast and fire off in the background like a weapon while the guitars drift from fast and heavy to pretty and atmospheric. This one also brought back the gang vocals which I am a huge fan of. Within the five tracks Dawnside even give us a little emo type ballad. At first I was very undecided on this one as the emotive and charming guitars threw me into a completely different sound than I had been experiencing before. I was suddenly no longer in headbanging mode but instead sitting and taking in the emotions that were being delivered to me. 'Autumn' very much gave me that 2010's vibe and it may have been a track that took a minute to grow on me but by the time it ended I was a fan. Easily one of Dawnside's strongest tracks is EP closer 'Fade Away', this one has some of their highest Spotify streams and is the most listened to on the EP, with it's heavy melodic catchiness it's easy to see why. This one is the most firmly rooted in the 2020's metalcore sound and would comfortably fit next to recent music from the likes of August Burns Red. This one not only makes you want to headbang a little but the chorus begs you to sing along, At about three minutes in the stunning guitars allow you to fully get lost in the track before the emotion fueled vocals drag you into it even further. This is one that as it goes on gives you more and more. It's clear to see why Dawnside are building a steady fanbase. After listening to 'Silence Lasts Forever' I can say that they've 100% gained a new fan here. The bands ability to not only feel like the modern bands I love but to also take me back to the bands I grew up loving, I think what they've created is really special. 'Silence Lasts Forever' expertly blends the harsh and heavy of hardcore with more melodic yet rough metalcore, while also keeping the tracks strongly emotive. I would highly recommend checking out this EP, especially if you also grew up on 2010's metalcore and still love to bang your head today.
