Emerging emo grunge act Numbflower have released their debut single 'Lead'.
Numbflower show off their own blend of emo grunge with their debut release 'Lead'. The band formed in 2023 in Long Island, New York. Put together by Dj Deane and Dan LeBrun towards the end of their previous project Hold Fast Hope, they are for fans of bands like Movements, Basement and Soundgarden. Numbflower intertwine the raw energy of grunge with an ambient sound and emo vocals.
"There's no true backstory, the song felt like a culmination of everyone I've ever dated who had difficulty communicating their wants and needs. I think sometimes we forget that no matter how close we are with someone they still are a separate entity filled with their own insecurities, fears and challenges. I just think that everyone goes through this kind of pain at some point in their life and sometimes it hurts to let someone you love go because they're not healthy for themselves or you." - ( Dj Deane, Vocalist)
'Lead' is an unusually bright emo track, the stereotypical emo vocals shout emotions out over guitars, but the instrumental is vibrant giving a sort of light indie feel to the song. There is of course some heavier leaning moments where the drums crash in and the guitars feel angrier but for the most part this one is lighter. It may be a little unusual but 'Lead' works, it's bouncy energy keeps you listening and for a debut release it's a really strong start.
