West Yorkshire lads, Wolforna promise a dark and thrilling sonic adventure with their new EP, 'Tales of the Damned'. Drawing inspiration from artists like Deftones and Queens of the Stone Age, Wolforna combine fierce riffs with melodic vocals and powerful drums to create their heavy rock sound. The four-piece from West Yorkshire have been honing their craft for a few years now and their electric live performance has seen them support bands such as, Dirty Honey and Tigercub. 'Tales of the Damned' is a conceptual immersive journey, the five-track EP blends together unsettling ambiances with crushing riffs and haunting melodies. Wolforna normally throw their own spin on the modern rock sound but this new EP is their most twisted yet polished work to date. Without warning Wolforna drag you straight down into their dark and unnerving imagined world with 'Your Tongue, My Teeth'. The previously released single is Wolforna to the core but possibly bigger than we have ever heard them. This one kick started the new era with a monumental sound letting listeners know that this band have not only refined their sound but that they had the potential to become something so much bigger than they were before. The track which is based on Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot' has riffs that could be easily compared to the likes of Biffy Clyro while the diverse vocals remind me more of Royal Blood, leaving the four-piece with a true powerful hard rock sound. The second track is another single that was released ahead of the EP, the fiercely catchy 'What's That In Old Money?'. This is a bold and lively track that talks about how the old hold back the young. The lively hard rock tune is led by an infectious riff but also has a daunting undertone which is fitting to the EP. Chugging in like a stadium anthem 'Copium' is the first new song we hear on 'Tales of the Damned'. In the verses Wolforna are clearly channeling the large hard rock sound they have become known for while the chorus launches you in a completely different direction. The track seems to spring into life with a bright melody that feels a bit more fitting to a typical alt rock band, I love a bit of variation in an EP and this one brings that. Yet, even while the Yorkshire band are giving something a little different they never lose that big guitar rock quality. 'Zombie Knife' is the song that deserves to be played at a Halloween party. With groovy rock guitars and a modern melody that leans on pop at times this one is truly dance worthy. I was so completely entertained by the spirited rhythm and the very British rock vocals that command the attention of any listener. Unlike any other song I've heard from Wolforna that one feels a bit more like a song that could be made by The Hara and I am a big fan. Closing the EP is latest single 'Chains', in my opinion this one fully embodies the horror vibe that has settled in the background of all the previous tracks. It haunting, swirling melody will have you hooked instantly as the song twists and builds. This one teases you, never letting you know what's around the next corner giving an unsettling tone to the rock track. I love the fact that this one closes the EP, finishing this venture into a darker world on a high. 'Tales of the Damned' is addictive and I enjoyed every single one of the five-tracks, each song brings it's own story and personality to the table for listeners to consume. This is easily the bands best work in my opinion and in just five songs they show off everything they are and everything they could be. Make sure 'Tales of the Damned' is next on your list of EP's to devour.
